Who do you wish you had more compassion for?

Moon
Will we never learn?!  This morning I am seething at the headlines that we are going to bomb the Moon in search of water.  One of them used the term "collision course."  It is my perspective that humankind is about to poop in our Post Toasties!

And to think we have spent in excess of 79 million dollars to do so makes the pot boil over!  The world is in economic crises and the US is hocked to the eyebrows from “helping out”  all over the Planet.  At a time when the money could have been used for other, more humanized projects, like shelter, medical care, food, water, oh, the list is endless…………Just because they want to know?  It's going to be there awhile, we've already screwed up our own planet, now we want to be messing up the Moon for good measure.  Is there no sense of responsibility in the scientific world at all?

I am normally a fairly calm, level-headed person.  I am normally a sweet, loving, kind and thoughtful person.  This morning my hide is royally chapped.  I am in one heck of a pissy mood.  That's not true – I am actually livid!  I am embarrassed to be a human being.  How stupid can we actually get?!  This is not a case of ignorance.  This is real, honest-to-goodness stupidity!

Laurie, you might like to look at Phoenix's entry on, ” what would you like to see changed in the world”.  You can see some interesting things there.

Hidden Gems
Experiences We Don't Understand Sometimes we have an experience that we don’t understand, but if we look deeply, or wait long enough, a reason for that experience will usually reveal itself. All the events in our lives lead to other events, and all that we have manifested in this present moment is the result of past events and experiences. We cannot easily tease apart the many threads that have been woven together to create our current reality. Experiences that don’t make sense, as well as any that we regret, are just as responsible for the good things in our lives as the experiences we do understand or label as “good.”

This is especially important to remember at times when we feel directionless or unsure of what to do. It is often at times like these that we take a job or move to a place without really knowing if it’s the right thing to do. We may ultimately end up leaving the job or the place, but often during that time we will have met someone who becomes an important friend, or we may have an experience that changes us in a profound way. When all the pieces of our life don’t quite make sense, we can remember that there may be some hidden gem of a reason that we are where we are having the experiences we are having.

It’s fun to look back on past experiences with an eye to uncovering those gems—the dreadful temporary job in a bland office building that introduced you to the love of your life; the roommate you couldn’t tolerate who gave you a book that changed your life; the time spent living in a city you didn’t like that led you into a deeper relationship with yourself. Remembering these past experiences can restore our faith in the present. Life is full of buried treasures. Chances are, you’re sitting on some right now.

As mentioned by Sandi and Meenakshi - here are links to some wonderful Gaia Community blogs who wrote about this same topic:

Starseed
Meenakshi

Gabriel - Thank you for your comment - a gift as always. [a very subtle chair/whip with which to brave the lioness' den]

Sandi - I hope your eyes feel/look better.  Did the Witch Hazel help?  If not, dilluted salt water won't make it worse (might sting), but could be helpful …

Laurie, I must say, I'm not into whips and chains!
But for you, I'd make an exception.

Hi Laurie et al

I agree with the sentiment, if not the specific.

To me throwing something at the lunar pole is not such a silly idea.   Meteors hit the moon all the time (that's how it got all the craters its got, and all the surface dust).   This particular thing hitting it happens to come from earth rather than from deep space, and happens to be going to hit somewhere verys specific, and could give us some very valuable information (about there being enough free water there to set up a colony quite easily).
I think there are probably much more effective ways to colonise space, and in the scheme of things tried, this seems to me one of the less insane ideas.

Money is an interesting idea.
The idea that money somehow limits future productivity - isn't that more than a little insane?
Think about it.
We have all this productive capactity, both human and technology, yet a few numbers stored in some computers somewhere say - Oh - not enough money, can't use that productive capacity, there is not enough money to buy it's outputs.
Am I the only one that finds that idea - more than a little strange.

The idea of savings is a little odd too.  That we should store grain or materials for future use I can understand.    That by putting money (numbers in a computer) somewhere we should expect it to grow, is - well - weird!

We are putting our surplus somewhere, and expecting future producers to give us back our surplus plus some of their's ???
I think I agree with you that we need to do some fundamental rethinking of our financial structures.

I think it is time that all people stopped accepting the BS they are fed at school and through newspapers that they are not smart enough to understand government or financial systems.
Anyone can understand them, in a few minutes.   Not in detail perhaps, but in concept, and in overview, certainly.
It seems to me there is a lot of vested interest in maintaining this whole smoke and mirrors ignorance thing.
It may be what we are used to.

It is time we got used to something else.
My 2c worth for the morning.   The rain has stopped, snow is down to about 1,200ft, occasional glimpses of sunshine, but still a bitingly cold wind - trying to decide if I really want to play golf today ;)

Gabriel - Awwww [blush, blush]

Ted - I appreciate your “2c worth” and find it much more valuable than that!  My beef is the reason why we are doing this.  If we (humankind) hadn't already screwed up what we were gifted with (a nice clean, fully functional planet), we wouldn't have to look elsewhere.  And then when we screw that up (the Moon) what then?  Find yet another planet to destroy?  Let's learn from our mistakes; not keep making the same ones over and over …

Hi Laurie & Gabby

For me it is more complex than that.

Yes we are making some serious errors down here on earth, politically, economically, and ecologically (and some would say spiritually - and I would use different terminology, and the outcome is the same).

There are a lot of dangers, and a lot of reasons why getting off this planet is a very powerful idea, that have nothing to do with us making mistakes down here.
I go into many of those dangers on my website - www.solnx.org - so wont repeat here.
Having said that, I believe that more coordinate action along the lines of www.solnx.org would deliver much better outcomes for humanity than we are getting from many of the very expensive programs that are happening right now.

Ted - “For me it's more complex than that.”  Well, Thomas Edward Howard, of course it is.  That goes without saying.  You're a Mensa, for goodness sakes!  I'm just grateful that I'm in your sphere of influence and can understand about 1/10th of what you say.

“Slower than a herd of turtles in a jar of peanut butter!”

Laurie, a bit off topic, but your illustration made me laugh out loud!  I never heard that one before, but it reminded me of what my aunt used to say when we were trying to get everyone organized and ready to go out the door.  After all the last minute items were grabbed, we'd finally pile into the mini-van, and when the car was started, she'd say with a sigh of relief, “We're off!  Like a herd of turtles!”

Slower than a herd of turtles in a jar of peanut butter! - says it with authority
The  group sense of humor really puts things in perspective.  It is embarrassing to see the humanity views bypassed when the economic climate here on earth needs our attention. http://www.solnx.org/ - what a great website! Thanks for creating it. http://donotbombthemoon.wordpress.com from Phoenix…WOW. She is an amazing writer speaking truth on the level of Mankind. I hope those that are freaked out on the Power of Light come here to read as it fills the vacuum with more Truth as we collectively try to make sense of nonsense.

Gia - Where you live do you ever see street signs in residential neighborhoods that say “Slow Children at Play”   That sign means, Slow down because there are children playing.”

Sometimes I think our globe ought to have the same great big sign sticking out of it … only it's meaning would be “Slow (as in not too bright) children at play.”
