What would your dream vacation be like?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for September 21, 2009:
One year of travel with Len (my husband), with stops off at home base to write about the experience, organize the photographs, recharge our batteries and resituate weather-appropriate gear.
We would steer clear of the 'tourist' areas. The majority of our time would be spent tramping, writing, taking photographs and enjoying the local cuisine.
One month - Scotland
One month - home
One month - Italy
One month - home
One month - New Zealand
One Month - home
One Month - France
One Month - home
One Month - Greece
One Month - home
One Month - Australia
We would not have a specific itinerary or timetable to adhere to. We would do what we want, when we want, for a month in that country and then move on. Because this is a 'dream' vacation - all air travel would be first-class. Additionally, my laptop would magically appear where/when I want and would work whether there was electricity/internet available, or not. And we would never give money a second thought because there would be an endless supply.

Help

Sounds like a good plan to me. I lke the idea of spending every other month at home.
Apparently I'm not dreaming big enough! That's sounds like a great vacation to me, as long as I don't have to sleep on the ground or do any dishes. We are in deep you- know-what here, I just talked to my bro. , his basement is flooded, there are bridges washed out, power outages, and schools and roads are closed.
I'm so glad I did my traveling yesterday because they've closed several stretches of Atlanta's interstate system, complicated in good weather, dreadful in bad. I'm thinking our power will go soon, no problem to me but for other's who haven't had experience with living off the grid, no electricity constitutes a lack of amenities and entertainment. It won't kill them, hurt their feelings, maybe, but they'll get through it. Me, I'm just praying for clear sky's.
Sandi - You were born with this type of event in your blood. I have every confidence in you and yours.
I am holding Light (heart-based intent) and asking Spirit to send blessings of restoration to your region.
Hi Laurie
Sounds like a good vacation. Whenever we go on vacation Ailsa has to start her plans close to home, and work away, because she knows that once I get to the furthest point, and turn to face home, I will keep driving until parked in the garage at home - if it takes 20 hours.
But I'm not sure about month on month off.
Here in NZ, a month wont let you see a lot. It takes me 6 weeks just to get around my clients (which takes me to most ports in the country). We may be only half the size of Texas but we have more coastline than the mainland USA, and a central spine of mountains than mean that travelling 50 miles can take you from wet coastlands, through high snowcapped mountains to high waterless desert. And much of it is very steep, with few tracks or roads.
If you're planning on going on some great walks, (and we have many years worth), allow at least 3 months.
We're also in the “Roaring 40s” - so the weather can change from beautiful sunshine and 30C (95F), to driving sleet and a windchill of -10C (15F) in a matter of minutes. If you are a hiker, then weather is a suitable topic of conversation ;). It always pays to be prepared. We do get long relatively stable periods of beautiful weather, and then we get the others too.
Love to see you down here.
Ted
Wow, Laurie – what an agenda! Adventure and cozy home at the same time. I'd take Ted up on his offer if I was you!
Okay, Ted, we're all coming to your house for a month. Sounds great over there, all the excitement you can stand and then some. Did I just see all you hair stand up in shock!?! I don't blame you, mine would too! I would love to see New Zealand, maybe Laurie and Len will take lots of photographs.
Hey, Laurie, well, things are bad here, as bad as I've ever seen them. My cousin Mike (the chicken-minder) is 50 and he's never seen it as bad. We have another wave of rain coming out of the Gulf headed this way and we are hoping that's an end to it. Some of the schools that were designated as shelters are now flooded themselves. I am lucky to be living on a ridge and not in the path of a creek or river and I have a new roof. Panama city really does seem like a dream now.
Barbara - watch this …
… Ted - we may well come visit you in 2011 (2010 is already planned for)!
Sandi - Well shoot fire! Are your girls okay? We've got plenty of room up here if you guys need a roof (although your ladies wouldn't be safe with our dogs).
Yes, it is very bad. The girls have dry homes tonight although it was pretty close. The creeks continue to rise but they are aware of the dangers and know where to come. Thanks for the invitation, you are very kind to offer, but we'll wait this out. There have been several deaths reported of people trying to cross flooded road and they were swept away, cars and all. We handle drought pretty well, now we'll see how we handle too much water. Thanks again.
Sandi - Please know that we are holding Light (heart-based intent) for you and yours. We've asked God and the angelic realm to intervene on your behalves.
sounds a little like my travel schedule beginning with last December in Japan, just much shorter times away - went to Toronto, upstate New York, New Jersey, California, back to Toronto…
November - Calgary, Albert and Vancouver, BC
December - Nashville, Tennessee
February or March - Hawaii?
April - Virgin Islands
May - Mexico?
June - Chicago?
July - New York City
August - Detroit?
October - Phoenix?
or something like that… :)
Hula Burgers, Nicole! It's sounds like you must have a suitcase and/or backpack attached at all times. Is your extensive travel for business or for pleasure?
….he-hee…..that's why I buy 649 lottery tickets. Hopefully I will be that home away from home of a luxurious solar home built on some exclusive island that You, Hubby, and many more Gaian's can arrive and drop their hiking boots onto, eh:)
Loving your spirit and all your walk abouts, Laurie,
Always,
Rita
Rita - I'm so glad that you stopped by. I sure do hope you WIN the lottery!
Hey! Hey,hey! What about me? I'll bring the okra, since nobody cut it while I was gone, some of it's the size of torpedoes. We can lash them together and use them for pontoons for rafts.
Sandi - We wouldn't dream of headin' anywhere without you and your okra pontoon raft (it probably requires a special license) …
We'll need to have something special between us and the okra, it would also work for sanding stone artifacts or simply taking the hide straight off of us.
I propose we do the Annie Oakley thing and wear chaps!
I don't believe in business or pleasure. Every trip must have both! But yes, dear, I would not be able to justify so much travel were I not motivated mainly by business. However, it's a matter of timing! Note - mostly tropical or southern destinations while Montreal is frozen in winter and temperate destinations when the weather is nicer everwhere. I haven't given up the hope of going to Scotland but just not sure when now.
“I don't believe in business or pleasure. Every trip must have both!” This is a great perspective, Nicole!
Pleased to see you put Australia in Laurie. Drop by my place when you get here. You and Len can use the spare room. You can bring your dogs as long as they arent too big and can leave the rabbits alone. Our little fellas are pretty friendly but worry about big boisterous dogs.
Hi Jenny - Thank you for the kind invitation. We may well take you up on it, but it will just be Len and I. Our girls (dogs) will have to stay home on two counts: (1) quarantine is a multi-months process for animals to travel internationally, and (2) they are not bunny-friendly.
OK I will be sorry to miss the girls but you and Len will be good enough without them I guess. Maybe Len could do his fundraising over here? I have a few contacts in the Brain injury foundation…..
